NO need to worry Primemuscle. It´s strange how often the photographers forget the back and backside of bodybuilders, where often you see the difference between the men and the boys. And, as you know, the glutes are such an area of muscular variety and form, they deserve attention in any competition.

JimmyZ is a club in L.A. where some bodybuilder types strip for cash (you'll notice the dude who needs to tan his ass better has a bill stuck between his legs}.

Anyway, don't confuse what these guys are wearing with legit posing suits because true thongs like these are still not legal attire in most bodybuilding contests....that's why some contestants simply hike their posers up their ass crack to show off their glutes as opposed to actually wearing something that would do this anyway. This begs the question, who is showing more glute, the guys in thongs or Ronnie with his poser hiked up?

Prime: These photos of Jaro Horvath show him with a good example of a great minimal poser - high cut, form fitting, nice stretch fabric, and adequate coverage. Upper legs, abs, and glutes are shown to perfection. Another excellent example of a good poser for today's competitor is shown on p. 126 in the photos and vids of Peter Molnar, who is an outstanding young body builder. The posers' fit showcases the gluteal muscles without the need to hike up the fabric, which is a cheesy manuver in competition. These guys also look good, not only because they have achieved great muscular definition, but also because they actually have waists and a classic V shape that is missing on so many top pro body builders, e.g. Jay Cutler, Ronnie Coleman and others, who border on being "fat" because of their excessive bulk. Molnar, in particular, has an outstanding ab-carving - you can actually see them since he dosen't have a heavy mid-section.

Thanks for those pics of Mark Erpelding. The back view of his legs and glutes is really fantastic, just look at those quads and hams, and the power of his glutes sitting astride them. A poser one size smaller at the back would look great. Side pose also incredibly imposing with intercostal and side abs like you´ve never seen before. A big package pushed up in front completes the impression of total muscularity and masculinity.

The other photos of Jeff Long, Chad LaCour and Jimmy Attienza also show without any doubt that the bodybuilders wearing the absolute minimum are able to show us muscles and profiles like never before, and now they are learning to give us poses which show off their hard work.

Actually fascicle is probably the correct term. However, most folks will understand what you mean if you simply say shredded, ripped or ropy. If one were to dissect muscle from the body and remove all surrounding fat, it would appear very ropy. The general idea is for one's muscles to show. Obviously, the less fat one has and the thinner their skin the more the muscles show.

I agree Alessandro Galli exposes more of the gluteous muscles than I've seen others expose on the bodybuilding stage.

Agreed, but there is a problem with this solution. Most, if not all, pro sponsored bodybuilding contests have rules which disallow male bodybuilders wearing thongs on stage. Violating this rule is grounds for disqualification. As crazy as it seems, bodybuilders apparently can get away with yanking their posing suit up their ass cracks to expose as much of the gluteus maximus as possible without being disqualified. Isn't that absurd?

If we look at the pics of him in the star and stripe suit: when he poses full frontal he always has the straps pulled up over his pelvis in a nice v shape. PIty the number tag is so big. And when he is photographed from the back then the same poser is sitting half way over his glutes and not pulled up to the pelvic bones at all. I think what he needs is a poser with a larger waist band, and much less material in the back. But perhaps he is saying to the judges, "look how ridiculous this looks, just let us wear thongs"

He looks really good in the gold suit even though in area it has more eoverage. He just wears it better, and the lines of his shredded ass seem to develop like sun rays out of the suit. The upside-down pose really draws our attention to it, by giving us a new view.

Perhaps I should clarify. I don't care either way whether bodybuilders pose nude during competition. However, I do think that it send an insanely contradictory message to, on the one hand, insist that bodybuilders display as much of their bodies as possible, and penalize them for showing too much when the effort to show as much as possible increases the probability that too much will be seen.

I doubt that jockstraps would be allowed on the bodybuilding stage. For one thing, some may see this as actually being more exposed because one's complete ass crack is uncovered. Thongs make more sense in my opinion because this is, in effect, what some bodybuilders turn their posing suits into when they pull them up into their ass. Believe it or not, there are rules regarding how much of the glutes may be exposed or must be covered.

I suspect you meant something different with regards to the term "solid" but, also in the posing suit rules it states that posing suits should be of a solid fabric and not have adornment. Yet I have seen photos of bodybuilders wearing posing suits which have rhinestones sewn onto them or are of a multi-color holographic metallic material.

Polite people pretend not to notice. If a judge is a schmoe, he might have a penalty in mind. In all reality, it probably doesn't happen on stage. Or if it did, it wouldn't be as noticeable since the audience section doesn't provide the view these camera angles do. So, if you really want to get an eyeful become a bodybuilding photographer.

His name is David Caputo. All of his photos are several years old now. There was a lot of talk and speculation about who he actually was and what he was and may be doing these days. He was probably just another hard up for cash bodybuilder with a big dick who posed for some photos once or twice and then moved on with his life.

Pakulski has got incredible glutes, but the pouch which is so succesfully cut on the front side, just makes a mess. Instead of emphasizing his incredible form it just covers it over, and also it isn´t on straight so he looks unbalanced.

I have also noticed that Europeans tend to wear suits that are very low cut, riding very low on the hips and leaving the tops of the glutes exposed whereas Americans tend to wear suits that ride very high on the hips.

One of the first shows where I have seen about the same time devoted to rear profile of the guys as to the front. And the first time that I have seen a glute comparison so pronounced, and where special poses are being developed where each competitor is copying.

It would be nice if some of these poses passed into the basic canon of poses , so that bodybuilders would be encouraged world wide to train and present their glutes to an optimum.

Several different styles of suit which accentuated different features of different competitors ( that is the point ), and as you pointed out a nice gesture by the guy pushing down his blue suit for a different "view"! It´s ice that they are not so shy.

Pity that some of the photography was so poor and the lighting did not allow better view of a beautiful show . Thanks for your researches Tall Muscle and long may the freeze last in Dallas.

It is probably easiest to buy them on the Internet. Someone probably sells them in Brussels or a seamstress could make you a custom posing suit there. Some pro body builders have their suits custom tailored anyway.

They are very much in a uniform, most of the posing briefs are black as well. It´s good that they want to show their bodies and the side profiles of muscle running from quad to lats are superb. And there are some good glutes out there all the same.

I think Branch's velvet posing suit was an interesting change and I don't recall seeing another one like that before. I have seen some posing suits that definitely looked above average in quality but I do not recall seeing a velvet one.

Thanks for putting a name to the face, Prime. I already had some pics of this guy and wondered where you might find him.

There´s pic up there with a semi-sideways profile where he´s wearing a light blue poser and a big smile. That shows off a beautifully tapered body, big big glutes supporting a body with the flexibility of a tree trunk.

As regards his brief, he´s very well endowed, always wears it at ten o´clock position and quite happy to force it into a poser that fortunately has some stretching capability. His unembarrassed behaviour on the stage only underlines how positive he is about showing us all his body, and that works really great to his advantage. For me he is a role-model.

Specially the front pose here leaves nothing to be imagined, and I am sure we - and the judges - are subconsciously influenced to mark up a guy in such a posing suit, not only because of the form of his visible musculature but also because we can see that there are no doubts about the strength and masculinity of what is outlined in his minimalist poser. It sure is exhilarating

I agree, when he did lat spread and double bicep you could see he him flexing his ass and hamstrings, but alas we were not allowed to view in detail. he certainly chose a suit which did justice to his legs and abs.

We seem to be in a trend where the suits ae getting smaller and smaller over the rear, and I only wish they could includee an hamstring and ass flex pose into the canon of formal poses. Most bodybuilders who want to give us a good show are not forgetting that however, and what we see is as exciting as many of the chest poses.

Years ago, bodybuilders would simply get out in the sun and tan in preparation for the contest stage. Since everyone skin tans differently, and since some folks are naturally dark skinned, the line up of guys on stage showed folks of many different skin tones. Those fortunate to have a darker skin tone appeared more cut because of the affect light reflection on oiled dark skin. Today, everyone appears nearly of the same skin tone regardless their natural color. In some ways it evens the playing field on stage.

Tanning products do sometimes produce some funny results on really light skinned folks, particularly on their faces. I have seen some people who appear to have white faces and really dark-toned bodies....which really looks weird. Often one sees streaks of tanning product running down a bodybuilders body as they sweat. Obviously, these products aren't water proof.

As I understand it, the best method get your skin looking good is to do a combination of things to darken it, including actual tanning for the base color and using some tanning oil products to even out the tone.

If I were to get on the bodybuilding stage and it was summer, I wouldn't have a problem with being tan. I tan easily and I get really dark with only a couple of day's exposure. I have olive toned skin. Still, I imagine I'd use some product to enhance my skin tone. I would think the professional spray tans would be water proof once they've set. However, our skin is always sluffing off dead cells from the surface, so too much tanning is still bound to create some odd results.

Gunter has similar lengths to Arnold in certain areas such as the length of his arms and the length of his torso. Yes the two have differences, I'm just saying that Gunter would be the best bodybuilder to point to who would compare to Arnold. I highly doubt Arnold would have won had he competed in the chemical era because those placings were reserved for bodybuilders under six feet tall.
