I am a huge fan of Paul DeMayo's and met him several times in the 90s, at the WBF Fitness Expo and at guest posing exhibitions. He was unfailingly kind and polite. His physique was amazing, and, of course, his legs rank as two of the best in the entire history of the sport, and will forever.
I wrote him several times while he was in prison, and we spoke several times by phone in the past three years, the last time being a month ago. He suffered far too much in his young life, but he was always a gentleman on the phone.
I feel some of the deep sadness his family must be feeling, and I send them my sincerest condolences, prayers and thoughts in this time. Paul is free now, free from sadness and problems. He is in a better world.

I always find it sad when people die of drug related problems, especially at such a young age. They just take hold and take everything they can from a person, in this case, Paul's life. If only he had been in rehabilitation he may have had years and years ahead of him. Such a loss.
This is to one of the great physiques of bodybuilding.
RIP Paul 1967-2005.

Well said. He was far too young to go. He had so much potential, not just in bodybuilding but in life too.
Rest in peace Paul.

Paul DeMayo
I am truly sorry at the passing of Paul DeMayo. When I was in graduate school and hanging out in the Fenway sunning. Paul DeMay came walking through the Park from the Museum side. He was with his girlfriend at the time I believe. He truly had the biggest quads I'd ever seen, always wanted to be squeezed by them. Will remeber him always, my condolences to his family, friends and loves.

You are correct that this was preventable. To me what is sad is how hard it is to help somebody in that situation. Sometimes, nobody can help except for the drug users themselves, and they are in no position to help themselves when they are caught up in their addiction.
