Thumbs down Atkins Diet DISADVANTAGES

The Atkins Diet will help you lose weight rapidly, but it is not good for your body. The Atkins Diet can cause your body to think that it is starving within the first two weeks of the diet. Your body will go into a state of Ketosis, a state that your body is in when it doesnt get enough carbs and thinks you are starving it, so it takes away your stored fat. This fat that is being taken away will of course make you skinnier, but the disadvantages are the symptoms! Symptoms include: Not being able to breathe well(b/c your lungs can't expand enough to get a good amount of air in.), bad breath(this kind is the kind that toothpaste cant fix.), vomiting, headaches, nausea, confusion, abdominal pain, coma, and even death(if taken to the extrmeme). This is NOT a recommended diet from me. And in mine and other's opinions, this is not a good diet to be on, unless you want to look anorexic(...the vomiting{symptoms}). This diet is also not healthy at all. I recommend a diet where you can eat anything, and exercise it off. I eat anything I want b/c I play a sport and workout, which makes my metabloism go up b/c I'm exercising on a regular basis.

About 5 years ago I lost 60 pounds in 6 months and kept it off for 3 years. Atkins does work (I was 345 lbs)! If you stick to it hard you will lose a ton of weight. I would say it is better for very overweight people to get down to a more manageable weight and then live a diet that basically takes out pasta, potatos, rice and bread. I never had any of those symptoms listed above. I just recomend having stuff ready to eat like hard boiled eggs for when you come home hungry. This will prevent you from snacking on the wrong foods. Just be sure you drink lots of water to maintain healthy organs while on this diet.

Atkins Diet

I think if you're going to try this diet for the short-term, it's best to be closely monitored by a physician. Over the long term, depriving the body of carbohydrates can affect absorption of some amino acids and brain function.

Is really this diet safe ?

People which are following Atkins diet eat large amounts of protein and fat.

Doctors from New York University wrote in The Lancet journal of a 40-year-old woman who developed a dangerous condition called ketoacidosis, a dangerous buildup of acids called ketones in the blood which can lead to patients falling into a coma.

Ketones are produced in the liver when insulin levels fall due to starvation or diabetes.

"Our patient had an underlying ketosis caused by the Atkins diet ..."

low carb diets are pointless to me .. unless your preparing for a contest and want to be shredded, they will simply not work long term

How do the Atkins diet and say the Keto Diet differ? How are they the same? Is the Ketogenic Diet better for you? I thought they were relatively the same, I mean it's all about keeping a low glycogen level. Also, what kind of supplements can be taken, if any, to keep your body in an anabolic state while on any of these diets? I am currently going the low carb route (only taking in simple carbs post workout) and taking Amino acids to keep from going catabolic. Great topic by the way Matt

Re: Atkins Advantage Bar - S'mores

Hey guys,

This bar was so bad I did not even finish it. Tastes nothing like S'mores does and I would rather eat raw green vegetables. Whoever made this bar should go back into the hole they crawled out of. If it had no taste it would taste better. I don't think the Atkins diet is this important enough for anyone to eat this piece of crap. I give it a 2 out of 10.
