After seeing such propaganda, I felt the need to write to Fox News on the topic and give them my $0.02

Hello,

I couldn't help but find your special on steroids to be a very poor and
amateurish report. You showed nothing conclusive whatsoever and focussed on cases of abuse and not moderate dosages of adults. You did not present evidence that steroids are unhealthy or unsafe, at least in terms of clinical evidence of the use of anabolic / androgenic steroids and their effects. Simply associating a reported user with negative effects does not imply causality. If this were the case, you may as well make special reports on every other drug, because you could do the same just as thoughtlessly.

You also completely overlooked the millions of healthy athletes currently using anabolic / androgenic steroids for their performance enhancing qualities and as a way to improve health and performance. To correlate a high suicide rate with steroid use is statistical absurdity and I'm led to believe you simply pulled these numbers out of thin air. If there was even a shred of truth to any of that, there would be a demand for plenty of trucks to haul the dead bodies out of my gym on a daily basis.

Having an overweight and unhealthy looking doctor attempt to explain the health hazards of steroid use is also an ironically fitting choice.

Showing an ignorant teenager who does not know in the least what he is doing as a representative of the steroid using population was also sheer ignorance. If you had any respect for unbiased media, you would have contrasted that with some of the people who have used steroids with little to know adverse consequences of their use. I believe Arnold Schwarzenegger has found that the biggest side effect of steroid use was $900,000,000 US.

You should focus your efforts on speaking out against drugs that actually are damaging to society - alcohol maybe. Nicotine is another good example. Although I'm sure you wouldn't do such a thing with your sponsorship. There are far worse things out there then people trying to improve their bodies and increase their strength levels. Of course, the easiest solution is to blame those types of developments on insecurity or steroid use out of jealousy. It must be unforunate to be on the other side of the tracks, and if attacking those who are fit AND healthy is the easiest thing to do - I suppose that works for you. But be aware - you're missing out on the benefits of the health and fitness lifestyle.

There are MANY good reasons why teenagers should not use steroids. You do NOT need to lie to the public to get this point across. It's stupid and an insult to the intelligence of your viewers.

I could go on here. Just some things to think about. Your propaganda is exactly what is wrong with the media today.

Sincerely,
Webmaster

He probably wanted to commit suicide after abusing juice and still looking like that.

Some comments from Bill Wllewellyn, who is a real expert on bodybuilding and not some quack like the ones on the Fox Special:

Monica,

I just finished watching “Breaking Point: The Truth About Steroids”, and I wanted to offer you my feedback. On a professional note, I strongly disagree with the main viewpoints and conclusions given about the steroid issue. I am extremely disappointed that you did not air many of the statements that Dr. Nick Evans and myself have offered as contrary viewpoints. The show drew many sharp conclusions that were not supported by the interviews or medical data, did not offer a balance of differing opinions, and ultimately did not seem focused on investigating the “truth about steroids” at all.

On a personal note, my sincerest congratulations to FOXNEWS are still warranted. In my nearly fifteen years of following the steroid issue I have never seen such a poor piece of journalism. There were so many blatant misrepresentations, errors, and omissions of contrary viewpoints that I would almost categorize the show as satirical in nature. You have officially lowered the bar for everyone.

Hey, thats fox news for ya. Gotta love the consertive beurocrats that run the stations and choose what to air.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/06/24....ap/index.html

Got anything to say about this? Fox should be airing things against things like this instead. At least its news. Figures it would be a german kid eh?! What a "random" coincidence.

Gene doping seems to be the future.
